I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting a little tired of hearing what Laura Bush thinks about Supreme Court nominees. First it was reported that Mrs. Bush wanted her husband to appoint a female to replace O'Connor. Now, she apparently sees "sexism" in conservatives' criticism of Harriet Miers.
"That's possible, I think that's possible," Mrs. Bush said when asked on NBC's "Today Show" whether criticism that Miers lacked intellectual heft were sexist in nature. She said Miers' accomplishments as a lawyer were a role model to young women.
This is hardly worthy of intelligent debate, but it's pretty absurd that the president can make it clear that he based his choice of Miers on affirmative action principles, yet anyone who dares to point out any perceived lack of merit is accused of sexism.
What a joke.
UPDATE: Michelle Malkin doesn't get much of a kick out of this either.
Did the White House not inform Mrs. Bush that some of the most vocal criticism and questioning of the nomination comes from conservative women? Or does she buy into the Left's conservative-women-are-self-loathing-traitors-to-their-gender line, too?Guess this is the thanks we get for defending the First Lady in the face of real anti-woman sentiment.
